NIGHT buses, independent spirit, bare legs, dorm rooms, bike sheds,
flirting, cold night, tough girls - these were all the characteristics
that we were told were informing the Chloe wardrobe next season, the fourth with Clare Waight Keller at the helm of the house.
Last season she gave us ultra flirty and girly but for autumn/winter
2013-14 she has manned up so to speak - bringing a strong utilitarian
dimension to the clothes and leaving only hints of that girly girl
behind. These would be the polka dot frill prom skirts and the flounces
here and there to echo a shoulder from a sturdy pinafore dress.
There
were great coats - boasting duffle and military details - and they came
worn with satchels for further boyish charm. Or there were capes or
oversized navy blazer coats with plunging lapels.
It was a little
more grown-up and there was something a little back-to-school about it,
commercial and instantly wearable pieces that are sure to be a hit. This
time it just perhaps missed some of that girly charm that we loved it
for and there wasn't as much flirting as we would have liked.
